Ruidoso Area Casinos Question: Ruidoso has a casino I've heard ... what is the name of it so I can find it on-line? Answer: Ruidoso has no Casinos! Well now that I've shocked y'all its not really what it sounds like. You see the Billy the Kid Casino is actually in Ruidoso Downs adjacent to the Ruidoso Downs Racetrack and the Mescalero Apache operate two casinos ... the Casino Apache Travel Center and the casino at the Inn of the Mountain Gods Resort and Casino. As these are casinos in Ruidoso's neighboring communities to the east and southwest, it only takes about ten minutes to get to either of these three casinos and you won't even notice when you cross the border! For more information click here. Question: What about full gaming and table games? I was told New Mexico only allows slot machines. I'm not as interested in slot play as table games ... please explain the gaming situation to be in your State as I'm writing from Oklahoma. Answer: Well you're partly right, The State of New Mexico Gaming Commission only allows slot play at our casinos associated with horse racing. In Ruidoso, this means the Billy the Kid Casino at our horse track in Ruidoso Downs which solely offers slot machine style gaming (and lots of them too!). New Mexico gives our Mescalero Apache friends a little more leeway however and they offer full gaming including tons of slots at their two casinos: the Casino Apache Travel Center and the casino at the Inn of the Mountain Gods Resort and Casino. These casinos offer full Las Vegas-style games like blackjack, roulette, poker and video poker, baccarat, war and Spanish "21" and a few more I shouldn't play. |
